EDUCATIONAL Trombone Talks Currently, Don is presenting "From the Bottom Up - The History of the Bass Trombone". In this session he will cover the history from it's early development to the present day form, talk about composers who were influential in the evolution of the instrument and the role of the bass trombone in today's music from jazz to orchestral. In conclusion he will talk about it's role in symphonic and movie music, performing excerpts from well known works including John Williams "Star Wars". approx.1.5 hours Master-class In a clinic Don will work 1 on 1 with a pre-selected number of students in a recital setting. These students will perform a short solo (accompanied or unaccompanied) followed by a coaching with Don. This is open to other students to observe and is an ideal forum for students to perform in front of their classmates in an informal concert setting. approx. 1.5 hours Clinic During a Master-class Don will perform a number of works for bass trombone followed by a short talk about brass technique including: breathing, articulation, range building, slide technique, practicing, a short introduction into orchestra audition and the life of a musician in general. At the end of the session, students will be encouraged to ask questions. approx. 1.5 hours Private Lessons If students would like to have a private lesson with Don, an extra day can be scheduled in which he can give 1 hour lessons. He will work with students on basic technique including: posture, breathing, articulation, slide technique, intonation, solo performance, and repertoire. These lessons will be scheduled through the school or faculty prior to Don's arrival and will be offered depending his schedule. approx. 1 hour Guest Conductor / Adjudicator Over the past 20 years, Don has had the opportunities to conduct a wide variety of ensembles. From Concert and Jazz Bands to Brass Ensembles, Brass Bands and Orchestral and Chamber music. Noted as a skilled conductor and teacher, Don will work with your ensembles on their current repertoire. between 1.5 and 2 hours Trombone Ensemble If you would like to give your trombonists a special treat, why not have Don work with them rehearsing music for trombones. During this rehearsal he will read through music written for trombones working on; sight reading, blend, dynamics, and all around ensemble playing. He has an extensive library of trombone music and can work with students of all levels. It is also possible to include baritones and tubas if desired. between 1.5 and 2 hours |
